Article 110.24 of the 2011 National Electrical Code states “Service equipment in other than dwelling units shall be legibly marked in the field with the maximum available fault current. The field marking(s) shall include the date the fault current calculations was performed and be of sufficient durability to withstand the environment involved”.
What does this mean?
Industrial Facilities: The 2011 National Electrical Code includes an exception stating that fault current markings shall not be required in industrial installations where conditions of maintenance and supervision ensure that only qualified persons service the equipment.
Commercial Facilities: Commercial properties including office buildings, medical centers, hotels, malls, retail stores, warehouses, garages, restaurants, etc. MUST have their service equipment marked with the calculated available fault current. Per Georgia law, these calculations must be performed be a licensed professional engineers.
